Sub-Directories Settings
Define how SyncBack processes directories. For example what sub-directories to copy and what to do with empty directories.
As with copying files, you would generally want to copy all the sub-directories. SyncBack gives you the opportunity to choose which sub-directories to copy. Unlike some other backup tools, you are not required to also backup parent directories. For example, you can backup the directory without having to backup it's parent directory, or it's parent's parent directory. You can even choose not to backup the files in the root directory.
To choose which directories to include in the profile, you must click the 'Include sub-directories and their files' until the tick is grey (at the top of the settings window).
Do not automatically check/uncheck parent and sub-directories: This option tells SyncBack what to do when you select or unselect a directory in the directory tree. If this option is not enabled (the default), then when you select/unselect a directory then all it's sub-directories will also be selected/unselected. This can be useful for selecting or unselecting a whole branch of the directory tree. If this option is selected, then when you select or unselect a directory then no other directory selections are affected.
Ignore new directories: If this option is not enabled (the default), then any new directories will automatically be included when the profile is run. For example, your source directory may have new directories created and deleted frequently. In this case it would not be practical to continually modify the profile to select those directories to backup. With this option disabled, when the profile is run, it will only ignore the directories you have specifically not selected in this directory tree. If this option is enabled, then when the profile is run, it will ignore any directories that are not specifically selected in this directory tree.
Copy empty directories: Delete all empty directories in destination: When this option is enabled then all the empty directories in the destination will be deleted. Note that only directories that contain absolutely no files are deleted. With Windows it is possible that Windows Explorer may add hidden files such as thumbs. db. If a folder contains any files then it is not deleted. Also empty directories are not delete if the profile run fails.
Include the destination in the list: By default the sub-directories listed are only the directories that are in the Source. However, if you wish to include the directories in the Destination then tick this checkbox.
Note that you also have the option of choosing what sub-directories to copy, and not copy, based on their name. See the Filter Settings for more information.
